The religion I grew up in offered no compromises and, sadly, quite a few religions are like that. What I do know is that I was this way from birth and I also know that God does not make mistakes. I am not a mistake that needs to be fixed. I could go on to tell you of the many times that I have felt that God has confirmed that I am what he intended me to be. God didn't make it easy for me but he did make me this way.Leannhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03632559182842678839noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-182477363609341716.post-29233229892191383652021-11-08T22:22:02.576+01:002021-11-08T22:22:02.576+01:00Thank you.
Religious bigotry arises mainly from ...Thank you.

Religious bigotry arises mainly from an interplay of psychological issues, including paranoia and cowardice, and instinctual responses such as fear and disgust which are hard-wired rather than considered. There is the further problem that those born psychopathic or with antisocial personalities (whom it is simpler to call the unempathetic) have no instinct towards virtuous or 'normal' behaviour and so have to rely on codified moral instructions, such as religions often offer, in order to have a system that enables them to interact with others in a way that doesn't get them into trouble. But this means that their natural instinct towards harming others gets coupled with their assumption that the moral code they feel they need to follow to survive in a world they do not understand must necessarily be followed by all other people, too. This leads to severe judgment and the need to punish and crush those who don't conform. Religion can also, of course, be a vehicle for them to oppress the naiver adherents of that religion - the ghastly pastors of US evangelical megachurches are all psycopaths, that much is plain to most observers.

I suspect the suggestion in the consultation that anyone could be converted from cis to trans has been put in through pressure from persons who want to prevent any help to young people. It looks like balance but is anything but. More on this next time.

Sue xSue Richmondhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14881573928883759984noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-182477363609341716.post-143210007771712772021-11-08T12:40:50.517+01:002021-11-08T12:40:50.517+01:00Thanks for sharing, Sue. I can be difficult and upsetting to write about the past.

FWIW, I think the crux of the issue are folk who have a fixed view (doctrine?) that LGBTQ+ is not okay and want to 'help' persuade/coach others back to being straight and/or cis.

I am worried about the inclusion of the phrase around converting someone to being trans. I'm not sure that is really a thing in the community, but a fear put about by those who don't understand.... or who don't want to understand and who want to push the community back.Lynn Joneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00876715474502367377noreply@blogger.com
