It's been six months since I had a perfect set of nails. I really wrecked my right index finger last autumn. And I mean wrecked: I've never had such damage so as to bleed and have to bandage it for several weeks. And my right thumb keeps breaking and getting caught on things. I'm not sure what this spate of bad luck is all about. Anyway, last week I bought lots of new nail varnishes in colours I've never tried before, so I'm starting to give them a go and see how I feel about them.
First up: lilac. Or Rimmels' "Lovey Dovey".
Quite pretty, and it would go well with some items I've got, like this tunic top.
I'll try out the other colours one by one.
Beautiful Sussex
I got back from my trip to England safely and it was such a success that I've booked another trip there in July. Two weekends ago I went to stay with a friend and former colleague (she was my mentor in an office job once). She retired ages ago and is now 80 but you would never guess to see her aliveness and I wanted to see her before she moves North to be closer to her son.
It was a beautiful spring weekend in the Sussex Weald, the classic rolling landscape of Southern England. She has a very pretty garden full of songbirds, woodpeckers, nuthatches and more. We went to the historic garden of Sheffield Park which was vibrant in the spring sunshine. The background photo on my blog was taken at nearby Painshill Park, also designed in the 18th century by Capability Brown and both are classic English landscape gardens that look natural but are wholly artificial. I'm not sure my nail polish can match some of these colours...

David Attenborough
Many happy returns to Sir David "Whispering Dave" Attenborough on his 100th birthday.
Known all over the world as an excellent broadcaster he is also an approachable, personable man. He lived close to my primary school and came and told us about animals one day. He could often be seen strolling to the shops locally in the same bush jacket he wore on his jungle escapades. Altogether a nice, genuine man and it's great to hear he is in good health at such an impressive age.
I'm not sure my pictures of water bird chicks above will win any wildlife photography prizes, but treat them as a birthday card from an appreciative viewer.

Hi Sue, I sympathise about nails. Mine have suffered through my lifestyle and I gave up nail varnish a few years back. I visited Sheffield Park back in 2022 with Nadia Soraperra who had popped over from France for a couple of days and wanted to visit Brighton - she loved the Rhododendrons. The dreaded Canada Geese (pic on my flickr) seemed to take a fancy to me, or possibly my skirt that looked rather like luscious weed! I watched the celebration for Sir David last night and really enjoyed it. I think I met Sir David twice through work and possibly also when I was a member of ZSL's XYZ Club, back in the late '50's. ReplyDeleteHi Nikki. Thank you. I think my nail problem may possibly a lack of some mineral coupled with clumsiness: brittleness + bangs = breakages.
DeleteI had to look up ZSL's XYZ club and it seems legit. Sir D has always managed to express quiet enthusiasm for what interests him in a way that anyone can appreciate. That is his forte.

Ooo, what a fab set of photos and beautiful nail polish too. The snap of the nesting coots is rather special, I feel. Oddly, we often see coots in & around ponds and similar, but rarely do we see their nests.
ReplyDeleteHappy 100th birthday to Sir David, bless him. Did you spot Lego updating their age ranges to include him? ❤️
Thank you very much, Lynn. I think that polish could well become a favourite. I'm glad you liked the nature snaps. The coots seemed perfectly at ease being gawped at by the visitors and just got on with their cootish lifestyles.
DeleteLego has an age range? That was news to me. I ate quite a lot of Lego as a baby, then I started to play with it despite being told you should never play with your food, and when I am very old I shall still be eating Lego. Try and stop me if they dare.
Maybe Lego could bring out a commemorative Attenborough safari set with Sir David, cameraman, sound recordist, BBC land rover, jungle shrubs, and man-eating lion ready to pounce.

It really sounds like your nails have had quite a challenging season lately 😔💅 — especially after such a serious injury and the ongoing breakage issues. It’s completely understandable to feel a bit frustrated by it all.
ReplyDeleteBut I love the way you’re turning things around with a fresh set of nail colours ✨ Trying new shades is such a simple but uplifting reset, and it’s a lovely way to rediscover what makes you feel good again. Here’s hoping your nails finally get a kinder chapter ahead 🌸

Thanks for visiting and commenting, Sadia. I appreciate your encouragement. Let's see how I feel about the other shades ...

What a nice nail colour dear Sue...it´s on my side - violet, purple or a bit pink?. You never can have too much nail polishes, can´t we? . Nice outfit on the picture at the lake. And Sussex seems to be a great area - when the weather is fine. I would wish to have a trip to Britain sometime again (I only was there once when I was 17)
ReplyDeleteHave a good time and all the best
Violetta
Thank you, Violetta. I imagine you'd like the colour although I see it as lilac more than violet or purple or pink. German has different names for the range of colours, I guess. I got seven nail polishes this time and I will be trying them one by one ...
DeleteSussex is very beautiful and very characteristic of Southern England. But England is expensive these days! :-O Come to Italy instead: it's cheaper, there's more sunshine and the food is better! ;-)
